Sheikh al-Huzail had an important position in the region and after the War of Independence, he headed a delegation of 16 sheikhs from the Negev who met with the heads of the State of Israel to sign a treaty that guaranteed peace and security to both sides. The document said that the sheikhs promised not to harm the security of the state and not to harass the Jews, and the Jews and the State of Israel promised to preserve the dignity, the weapons and the lands of the Bedouin.
